Chip-A-Canoe
Who knew that Fairview Heights would host the start of one of the most documented experimental archaeology projects in the world? Last summer it did!
It started on Pleasant Ridge Road on July 4th, 2023 and finished in Kampsville, Illinois on, July 27th. We titled it the CHIP-A-CANOE project. We cut down a large tulip poplar, transported it to Kampsville, made a dugout canoe out of the log — all using STONE TOOLS!
Join us for a presentation of “CHIP-A-CANOE: An Adventure with Stone Tools”. Larry Kinsella, a lifelong resident of Fairview Heights, and noted experimental archaeologist, will guide you on the journey.
