Seasonal Unskilled Parks Laborer
Description: This is a non-supervisory position engaged in the construction, repair, and operation of various types of equipment for the maintenance of City parks and grounds.
Essential Job Duties:
- Clean restrooms and pick up litter around parks and medians
- Operate mowers, tractors, vehicles, and other small equipment
- Utilize a variety of hand and power tools in parks and grounds landscape maintenance work
- Assist in basic routine maintenance of such equipment
- Water, repair, and fertilize lawns, plant and prune trees and shrubs, rake leaves and clean walks, fields,
courts, and other facilities - Assist in the preparation and maintenance of athletic fields and related facilities

FT Laborer - Horticulturist
Description:
Under the general supervision of the Parks Supervisor this position involves the planning and installation of all landscaping, annual flowers, tree planting, memorial programs and general maintenance of the landscaped areas in parks, along right-of-way, public facilities and other designated locations within the City of Fairview Heights. The horticulturist will also be responsible for general tree trimming, pruning of shrubs and mulching in addition to other general park maintenance duties. Assisting with ballfield maintenance, special events and snow removal is also included in the job description. Some weekend, holiday and evening work will be required.
Essential Job Duties:
- Design/plan landscaping and grounds maintenance programs
- Construct various projects assigned for the above facilities
- Perform landscape installation and maintenance of flowers, shrubs, trees and lawns
- Perform snow and ice removal on sidewalks at facilities owned by The City of Fairview Heights
- Directs other temporary part-time employees in activities as assigned
- Evaluate assigned projects for materials, equipment and manpower needed
- Maintain tools, equipment and supplies
- Operate various grounds maintenance and construction equipment as assigned
- Performs related duties as assigned by supervisor or as in the personnel policy
- Ability to assist Land Use Department in testifying to vegetation related civil matters
Basic Job Qualifications:
- Minimum two-year associates degree in horticulture, landscape design or another related field preferred.
- Valid Driver’s License required.
- Pesticide License with the State of Illinois or the ability to obtain a pesticide license within the first year of employment.
PT Recreation Coordinator
Descrition:
Position involves the facilitation of various recreation and sports activities, including instruction and supervision, as well as assisting in various special events and office activities for the Department of Parks and Recreation.
Essential Job Duties:
- Facilitate various recreation and sports activities
- Plan, promote, organize, schedule, and lead activities for youth and adult programs as determined with the
supervisor - Maintain records such as attendance, income from fees, expenditures, and time sheets
- Maintain ongoing inventory control of recreation equipment and supplies
- Assist with registration for department programs, and answer specific program questions
- Monitor the number of teams or individual registrations for programs
- Instruction at various recreation and sports activities
- Assist in special events and recreation activities
- Assist with office operations for the Parks and Recreation Department
- Assist in set-up and tear down for facility reservations
- Performs related duties as assigned by supervisor or as in the personnel policy
2025 Summer Day Camp Counselor
Descrition:
Supervise children and organize games and activities.
Essential Job Duties:
- Supervise groups of children
- Attend field trips
- Participate in all games and activities
- Assist in storing and controlling the use of recreation equipment and program supplies
- Maintains regular and timely attendance on an ongoing basis
- Move equipment to site, such as bats, balls, mats, boxes, chairs, and other recreation equipment for use in day
camp activities
